Why sit and wait, when you can sit and enjoy?
PlugOn is building solar-powered EV charging stops with a café and a play area, on the highways around Bengaluru.
What does your charging stop look like?
Slide to set your battery level when you arrive.
Illustrative estimate for a DC fast charger. Real times depend on your car and the charger.
A charge takes 20 to 45 minutes. Most stations give you nothing to do with them.
Electric car owners wait in a parking lot every time they charge. Operators who sell only electricity earn thin margins, so few invest in making the stop worth it.
We spoke to EV owners directly and through their communities, and heard the same thing again and again.
Charging time should feel used, not endured.
One stop: charge, eat and play
Every PlugOn site puts four things in one place.
Concept illustration, not a final design
Solar canopy
A shaded canopy designed to cover 40–50% of daytime charging load, so your car charges on sunlight where possible.
AC and DC chargers
The pilot site plans 2 AC chargers and 1 DC fast charger, matched to how many cars actually stop.
Café
Coffee and food for charging customers and anyone passing by on the highway.
Play corner
A small shaded area for kids, so families can stop without the stress of a long wait.
How a stop works
Plug in
Pull in under the solar canopy and start charging.
Relax
Walk to the café. Your car charges while you rest.
Eat or play
Grab a meal or let the kids burn off energy.
Drive on
Come back to a charged car and carry on with your trip.
Who PlugOn is for
EV drivers
A highway stop worth making, with good coffee, somewhere for the kids and a charger that is ready when you are.
